Cleaning Your Crystals the Safe Way
Keep your Crystals Clean and Clear Like you Cleanse Yourself - Thoroughly Yet Gently
Cleansing with Water: do NOT cleanse these crystals and stones with water which can actually begin to dissolve the stone:
Angelite
Amber
Kunzite
Kyanite
Selenite
Turquoise
Any stone with iron in it, which causes it to rust (Pyrite, Marcasite)
Author's Note: I left a piece of amber to soak in water for only a few minutes, and it began to turn sticky, like tree sap. This brings up the issue of reconstituted amber being passed off as real amber, which is tree sap that has hardened after millennia since the dinosaur days, and thus is very expensive. The reconstituted, or merely modern hardened tree sap will disintegrate quickly. If you suppose this to be true (like the amber was not very expensive when you bought it), then a coat of clear lacquer might be a good idea as a preservative.
Cleansing with Sunlight: some crystals will bleach out or fade if left in the sun for too long. To be on the safe side, some direct lighting can have the same result. I left a beautiful Sodalite piece in a window box which I thought was in indirect light. The former owner had grown violets in this area, and they need shade. What happened was the side facing outwards got so faded that it looked like faded bluejeans, not the vibrant deep blue Sodalite is famous for.
